Influence, Persuasion, & Impact

This virtual seminar is split between two consecutive days. Participants must attend both sessions to complete the seminar. Registration covers both sections.
Part 1: Thu, February 18 | 1:00pm – 4:30pm
Part 2: Fri, February 19 | 1:00pm – 4:30pm
During this interactive session, participants will learn the psychology around how and why human beings offer or withhold trust. In addition, you will explore multiple dimensions of power and political agility. Discussions and activities will include a focus on the state of your internal and external networks, as well as the role emotion plays in decision making. You will leave the session with practical tools for building your influence across your organization, especially in managing up and across.
Those in attendance will learn that in order to inspire and influence others:
- Your first impression must be on point
- Body language and tone really do matter
- Others must feel it is about them and that you have their best interests, as well as the best interests of their organizations, at heart
- Your network must be defined, cohesive, and flourishing
- You must grasp the role emotion plays in people as they decide whether to follow or retreat

About the Instructor
Mike Allison is a professor and Bloch Executive Education instructor within the Henry W. Bloch School of Management at UMKC. In that capacity, he teaches EMBA courses on international business, influence and persuasion, and advanced presentation skills. He also instructs business leaders on diverse topics such as change management, emotional intelligence, holding difficult conversations, presentation techniques, building trust, and executive presence. Prior to his current academic focus, Mike accrued nearly 20 years of healthcare IT leadership experience working at Cerner Corporation. While at Cerner, he held executive responsibilities within both the client and associate learning organizations. His award-winning learning teams, many of which were internationally based, provided practical and effective end-to-end learning solutions to Cerner clients and associates around the world. Mike also spent a year as the Vice President of Learning & Development at AMC Theatres. There, he led a team of learning professionals who focused on building, supporting, and retaining talent across multiple guest-facing brands. Mike is a graduate of Brigham Young University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and a master’s degree in Public Administration.
Online Seminars All online seminars are hosted in real-time via. Zoom. Be prepared to participate with your class in discussion with your instructor. If you have not used Zoom or would like to learn more, please visit Getting Started with Zoom.
Scheduling All online seminars will be held across two-consecutive days from either 8:30-12:00 or 1:00-4:00 CST.
Pre-Course Communication Once registration is completed, you will be emailed a confirmation of enrollment. Two weeks before the session, you will receive an email with login details and additional details including any pre-work assignments (such as short readings or videos that instructors may ask you to complete prior to the session).
Course Recording Each online seminar is recorded and you will be given online access to these recordings. By attending the event, you are giving the Bloch School of Management permission to use your image should we create promotional or instructional material from the recorded session.
Cancellation & Transfer Policy Seminar participants (or their organizational representative) should call or email Bloch Executive Education in order to change or cancel registrations. Cancellations made prior to 7 days from the seminar date are eligible for credit towards a future seminar, but are ineligible for refund. Credit for future seminar is valid through the following seminar year. Seminar registrations may be transferred from one individual to another up to 7 days before any elected seminar. Cancellations made within 7 days from the seminar date are non-transferable and non-refundable. Bloch Executive Education reserves the right to make changes to the cancellation policy and transfer policy. The current policies will be posted on our website and will be observed regardless of previous policies or standards. “No-shows” are non-refundable and non-transferable.
