Harnessing the Power of Influence and Persuasion

This virtual seminar is split between two consecutive days. Participants must attend both sessions to complete the seminar. Registration covers both sections.

What You Will Learn

Leaders who move the meter understand the behavior science around influence.  They authentically and effectively shape the opinions of peers, stakeholders, clients, and direct reports.  Without influence, you cannot be successful in advancing the businesses, organizations, and people you serve.  During this interactive two half-day session, you will learn how to more effectively persuade others while exploring multiple dimensions of power and political agility.  Discussions and activities will include a focus on the state of your internal and external networks.  You will leave the session with practical tools for building your influence across your organization.

  • Solidifying trust must be a primary focus
  • Your network must be defined, cohesive, and flourishing
  • You must practice the law of reciprocity
  • The four keys to the “Necessary Art of Persuasion” must be leveraged
  • Cultural intelligence must be developed


About the Instructor

Mike Allison teaches the Talent Management course in the Bloch Executive MBA and presents and instructs on diverse topics such as change management, emotional intelligence, holding difficult conversations, building a culture of feedback, advanced presentation techniques, cultivating trust, and executive presence. He regularly carries out public speaking engagements and provides coaching to business leaders across the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Outside of the classroom, Mike heads Talent and Leadership Development at Spotlight AR (Analyst Relations). Prior to his role at Spotlight, Mike enjoyed over 22 years of healthcare IT leadership experience working at Cerner Corporation. His award-winning learning teams, many of which were internationally based, provided practical and effective end-to-end learning solutions to Cerner clients and associates around the world. Mike’s teams were instrumental in seeing Cerner be named atop the Association for Talent Development’s (ATD) BEST list which awards companies that are best at demonstrating enterprise-wide success through talent development. Cerner was also a Training Magazine Training Top 125 Award winner for fourteen consecutive years.


Program Details

Online Seminars All online seminars are hosted in real-time via. Zoom. Be prepared to participate with your class in discussion with your instructor. If you have not used Zoom or would like to learn more, please visit Getting Started with Zoom.

Scheduling All online seminars will be held across two-consecutive days from either 8:30-12:00 or 1:00-4:00 CST. 

Pre-Course Communication Once registration is completed, you will be emailed a confirmation of enrollment. Two weeks before the session, you will receive an email with login details and additional details including any pre-work assignments (such as short readings or videos that instructors may ask you to complete prior to the session).

Course Recording Each online seminar is recorded and you will be given online access to these recordings. By attending the event, you are giving the Bloch School of Management permission to use your image should we create promotional or instructional material from the recorded session.

Cancellation & Transfer Policy Seminar participants (or their organizational representative) should call or email Bloch Executive Education in order to change or cancel registrations. Cancellations made prior to 7 days from the seminar date are eligible for credit towards a future seminar, but are ineligible for refund. Credit for future seminar is valid through the following seminar year. Seminar registrations may be transferred from one individual to another up to t7 days before any elected seminar. Cancellations made within 7 days from the seminar date are non-transferable and non-refundable. Bloch Executive Education reserves the right to make changes to the cancellation policy and transfer policy. The current policies will be posted on our website and will be observed regardless of previous policies or standards. “No-shows” are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
