Finance & Accounting for “Not-for-Profit” Organizations

This virtual seminar is split between two consecutive days. Participants must attend both sessions to complete the seminar. Registration covers both sections.

This workshop teaches how financial accounts function for both private foundations and public nonprofit organizations. It is designed for non-financial people, fundraising managers, and executives – as well as anyone who needs to read and understand a nonprofit’s financial statements.
The workshop focuses on:
- Explaining complex accounting rules in terms nonaccountants can easily understand to help them better fulfill their managerial and fiduciary duties.
- Showing how accounting entries and financial statements of a nonprofit organization interact to give a clear picture of the financial health of the organization.
- Teaching how to read and understand the four major financial statements of a nonprofit organization:
- Statement of Activities
- Statement of Financial Position
- Statement of Cash Flows
- Statement of Functional Expenses
- Explaining accounting words and terms people need to know to communicate effectively and participate in financial decision-making discussions within a nonprofit organization.
- Updating board members, executive directors, program officers, and managers on the accounting basics for successful day-to-day operations.

About the Instructor
William Kay is an instructor for Bloch Executive Education, and owner of W. Kay & Associates, dedicated to helping organizations and individuals enhance their competitiveness, productivity, and technological performance. For the past 24 years, Bill has specialized in assisting businesses in the quest to improve performance in the areas of strategic planning, finance and accounting, project management, marketing, sales and sales management, and team building following the accelerated learning model for adult learning. Bill’s professional experience includes over 20 years as CEO and owner of a major manufacturing company and the past 24 years helping major Fortune 500 companies and universities with organizational development and training. Bill holds an M.B.A. in Finance and Marketing from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Arizona, Tucson.
Online Seminars All online seminars are hosted in real-time via. Zoom. Be prepared to participate with your class in discussion with your instructor. If you have not used Zoom or would like to learn more, please visit Getting Started with Zoom.
Scheduling All online seminars will be held across two-consecutive days from either 8:30-12:00 or 1:00-4:30 CST.
Pre-Course Communication Once registration is completed, you will be emailed a confirmation of enrollment. Two weeks before the session, you will receive an email with login details and additional details including any pre-work assignments (such as short readings or videos that instructors may ask you to complete prior to the session).
Course Recording Each online seminar is recorded and you will be given online access to these recordings. By attending the event, you are giving the Bloch School of Management permission to use your image should we create promotional or instructional material from the recorded session.
Cancellation & Transfer Policy Seminar participants (or their organizational representative) should call or email Bloch Executive Education in order to change or cancel registrations. Cancellations made prior to 7 days from the seminar date are eligible for credit towards a future seminar, but are ineligible for refund. Credit for future seminar is valid through the following seminar year. Seminar registrations may be transferred from one individual to another up to 7 days before any elected seminar. Cancellations made within 7 days from the seminar date are non-transferable and non-refundable. Bloch Executive Education reserves the right to make changes to the cancellation policy and transfer policy. The current policies will be posted on our website and will be observed regardless of previous policies or standards. “No-shows” are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
