Creating and Delivering Presentations with Impact

Put effective presentation strategies into practice. In this session, participants learn how to analyze the audience and context, structure the speech, and use talking points and a speaking outline. We will discuss best practices for PowerPoint and visual aids, and tips for delivery and managing speaking anxiety. The course will use instruction, break-out activities, in-session presentation practice, discussion, and multi-media video and audio. After completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Create structure in the speech, build memorable introductions and conclusions, employ sign posts to guide the audience, and choose the best organization pattern
Target the message correctly to the communication situation by analyzing the audience, context, and speaker
Navigate questions and answer in a time-effective manner
Master elements of delivery like eye contact, gestures, and voice
Manage speaking anxiety by understanding the nervous system response and coping techniques
Know when to employ different visual aids and the do’s and don’ts for effective PowerPoint
As a coach and presenter, Erin Blocher has collaborated with winning companies and leaders in the non-profit, health care, and government fields. She has over 15 years of experience working with clients and teaching communication theory, public speaking, and effective business communication. Erin holds a Masters in Communication and Rhetoric from the University of Kansas and a Graduate Certificate in Executive and Professional Coaching from the University of Texas at Dallas. In her role as a Teaching Professor at the University of Missouri – Kansas City’s Henry W. Bloch School of Management, she helps students build a bridge between communication theory and practice. She serves as Co-Advisor for the UMKC Enactus team and works with students in the Bloch School’s MBA, Undergraduate, and Executive Programs. Erin enjoys helping clients apply effective business communication strategies and tactics to real-world situations.
